Common Vision Problems

Nearsightedness (Myopia) Farsightedness (Hyperopia) Astigmatism
occurs when the cornea is too steep or the eye is too long. Light passes through the eye but focuses before it reaches the retina resulting in blurred distance vision. occurs when the cornea is too flat. The light rays are focused behind the retina. This causes blurred vision often at near and at distance. occurs when the cornea is shaped more like a football than a dome. This causes two focal points resulting in blurred or distorted distance vision.

Presbyopia is another vision problem that is very common in people that are entering their late 30's or 40's. Presbyopia is due to a natural process in the aging of the lens in the eye, resulting in the loss of flexibility and thus, a loss in the ability to focus from distance to near. Patients that have presbyopia in addition to myopia or hyperopia, will still require reading glasses for some activities. If you are unsure of your vision problem, please contact us to evaluate your visual needs.

*An additional note for patients currently wearing contact lenses, depending on the type of contact lenses, patients are required to refrain from wearing contacts prior to the preoperative examination and surgery. This requirement is to ensure that all measurements taken are very accurate and that your eyes free from irritation prior to surgery.
